Oral tradition, musical instruments and dance means a lot in the language of one of the earliest art collectives of Kazakhstan, "Kyzyl tractor". Created on the basis of the school of spatial-structural composition, a group of friends and artists actively traveled in the period from 1995 to 2005. Among the various topics explored by Said Atabekov, Vitaly Simakov, Smail Bayaliev, Arystanbek Shalbayev and Moldakul Narymbetov, sound is extremely important.
On the one hand, the sound for "Kyzyl tractor" is a way of reunion and deconstruction of the oral tradition, of some intangible heritage wandering across the steppe along with people and thus fixing the collective memory. In the performances of "Kyzyl tractor" we also see the attitude to sound as a way to heal a person with a sound wave, which probably caused the creation of a massive drum for the work "Purification Ritual 2003/2018".

Kyzyl Tractor
Kyzyl Tractor is an art group from Shymkent. It was formed under the influence of Vitaly Simakov, a follower of the school of spatial-structural composition. Each of the group members (the late Moldakul Narymbetov, Vitaly Simakov himself, as well as Said Atabekov, Smail Bayaliev and Arystanbek Shalbayev) is a self-sufficient creative unit with an original artistic language, but they propose to consider their creativity as the result of collective work. Through performances, installations, video art, they explore the traditional Kazakh culture, the heritage of nomadism and shamanism. Their works often feature wood and wool, as well as traditional musical instruments: shan-kobyz and dombra.
